We first met Matthew and Philippa at a wedding fair at Newcastle Racecourse back in 2018. They were looking for a photographer who would offer them something different while fitting into their relaxed ideas for the day.

They chose Eden Barn in Kirkby Stephen as the location for their big day. We’d never photographed their before as the venue as both in its infancy and over towards the lake district, but Matthew and Philippa sold the venue to us and after a great chat, they felt we were the photographers who could capture their big day.

Everything was in relative close proximity. Philippa was getting herself ready in a cottage not too far away and literally in the opposite direction of the venue, Matthew and his groomsmen were getting ready in a pub/hotel/venue nearby.

We were really excited for their big day as it’s always good for us to photograph at a new venue. It’s keeps things fresh and allows us to get creative. Here’s how it all unfolded…

Where the wedding name came from:

The name was chosen because of the venue but also the sign outside of the cottage where Philippa got ready.

Chris began his day with Matthew and the lads who were getting themselves ready close to the venue.
After a quick group photograph outside, Chris and the boys headed over to Eden Barn.
Shazia meanwhile was with the girls. We particularly love the card that Philippa received on the morning.
Philippa looked stunning in her dress.
Things were nice and calm over at the venue as Philippa got ready to leave.
There was still enough time for Matthew and his groomsmen to get a pint of Guinness in before guests arrived.
Once guests were seated, Philippa made her way down the aisle to an eagerly waiting Matthew.
It was a beautiful ceremony that took place inside a beautiful barn setting.
Outside, we managed to capture a big group photograph of everyone before an awesome confetti shot.
After we captured a few group photographs, the canapés did the rounds as guests mingled inside and outside the venue.
As always, we gave guests plenty of time to mingle and catch up with each other.
Before we knew it, it was time for the speeches as our newlyweds made their way into the breakfast room.
As you can see from the photographs, the speeches were thoroughly entertaining and drew a lot of laughs from the guests.
After the meal, it was time for some couple photographs.
We made use of not only the fantastic venue but also the fantastic local surroundings just down the lane from the venue.
Guests were eagerly waiting the return of the bride and groom. After searching for a knife, we were finally able to cut the cake.
Straight after the cake cut followed the first dance, complete with an awesome band in front of a stunning star lit wall.
The evening was far from done however as guests made the most of the fantastic weather and enjoyed some stone baked pizza outside.
